Pillar of Salt Café

Pillar of Salt is another staple of the café scene in Richmond, located on Church Street. According to Broadsheet, their name was aptly chosen as an ode to a structural pillar that could not be moved during construction.

Their poke bowl actually makes more appearances in my Uber Eats receipts list from the early 2020s than I would like to admit.

Tomoyo and I walked up from South Yarra for this morning’s visit and we perched up down the back in the outdoor space.

It was more of a work-trek, so we came mainly for the coffee and to plan out some more of the launch for the blog (that you are currently reading)!

Their Instagram account paints a better picture of what to expect from the menu and vibe, but it is certainly a trendy café with a lot of traffic getting through its doors.

外からだと一見小さなカフェに見えるが中に入ると奥にはバックヤードが広がっていてなかなかの広さ。テラスもある。

バックヤードの席をとり、今回はアーモンドラテをオーダーした。

屋根と屋外ヒーター冬でもバックヤードがあたたかく、ありがたい。

ラテアートが美しい。ラテもいいラテ。5ドルでこのクオリティのラテをいただけるのはメルボルンに住んでいる特権だ。

このカフェの名前のPillar of saltは聖書の物語出てくる。

ロトの妻はソドムが燃えるのを見て引き返し、神の言葉に従わなかったために塩の柱にされてしまった。この物語の教訓は、振り返ってはいけないということ。

構造上動かすことができなかった柱を中心に、テーブルや椅子が配置されている。白いタイルで覆われた柱は、カフェの名前を投影しているかのよう。

今回の滞在中わんこ連れてコーヒーを楽しむ姿を見て和む。

ドッグフレンドリーな街は生活の質を上げてくれる。

今回はお食事を頼まなかった。コーヒーだけでもゆっくりとした時間を楽しめるカフェだがお食事メニューにも力を入れているらしいのでまたいつか再訪問したい。
