One of the peaks of Melbourne's café scene
Higher Ground is so high on the list of those travelling to Melbourne that even friends from other cities recommend it to their friends for their voyage to Melbourne.
Another production from the Darling Group, Higher Ground is a Melbourne CBD café that is placed in a heritage-listed powerhouse.
Located across from Southern Cross Station, Higher Ground serves an all-day menu across six-levels in what can only be described as a visually stunning interior. Regardless of where you sit within the café, the backdrop for any location is beautiful and it really drives home that feeling of sitting in an architecturally-inspired location.
We were placed on the highest level (my first time up here) which has its own barista bar and feels like its own intimate bar lounge. Although we weren’t situated there, the upstairs area also had higher seating that looked like a great place to sit and work during off-peak hours.
Tomoyo enjoyed her batch brew and I took a different route and trialled an almond mocha. I can attest that both were delicious.
Their menu caters for many dietary requirements and takes inspiration from a number of different international cuisines, though I must admit that the recommendation I get from word-of-mouth on your first trip to Higher Ground are the Blueberry & Ricotta Hotcakes.
To get a better idea of how visually stunning the place is (or even just to get a sneak peek of their other goodies), check out their Instagram.
Higher Ground is also available for events.
If you are a fan of the work by the Darling Group, you should check out some of our other reviews for their cafés such as The Terrace within the Melbourne Botanical Gardens or Top Paddock in Richmond.
